Retreats

Finding Peace in the Heart of Christ.

Step away for a weekend

Time to look at your life with God

In the middle of work, family and daily commitments, a retreat is a chance to recover your balance and face the future with trust in God’s great love for you.

Over a quiet weekend at Lismullin, at the foot of the Hill of Tara, you have time to pray, to think, and to grasp more deeply the meaning and purpose of your life – and go home ready to meet life’s challenges with fresh energy. Everything on the programme is optional: you choose how much to take part in.

  • Ample time for personal prayer, reflection, confession and spiritual direction.
  • Centrality of the Eucharist - Mass, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction.
  • Insightful talks on aspects of the Catholic faith.
  • You can choose to attend as many or as few of the activities on offer as you like.

What happens on a retreat?

A gentle structure, with plenty of space

Every activity is optional, and you will receive a full timetable when you arrive.

Holy Mass

Mass is celebrated every day and is the centre of the retreat. Everyone is welcome; if you are not Catholic, you are welcome to come forward for a blessing.

Meditations

Half-hour sessions of guided prayer in the chapel, given by the priest several times a day, to help you reflect and speak with God.

Talks

Talks by lay people on living the Christian faith in everyday life: work, family, friendship and personal growth.

Adoration & Benediction

Time before the Blessed Sacrament each day, in adoration and at Benediction.

Confession & spiritual direction

A priest is available throughout the weekend for Confession, or simply for a conversation and some personal advice.

Night prayer

Each evening ends with a short commentary on the Gospel and a guided examination of conscience – a quiet look back over the day with God.

Silence

Retreats are generally held in silence, which makes room to rest, pray and listen more attentively to God.

Time for yourself

Ample time for personal prayer, the Rosary, a visit to the Blessed Sacrament, reading in the library, or walking in the grounds.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before you come

Do I need to be Catholic to attend?

No. Everyone is welcome. All sessions are optional, so you can decide whether to join in or take some time for yourself.

What time should I arrive?

Weekend retreats begin on Friday evening; please arrive between 8pm and 9pm. Dinner isn't served on Friday unless the retreat's event page says so, so please eat before you come – a light supper is available when you arrive.

Is the retreat silent?

Retreats are generally held in silence, to give you space to rest, pray and reflect. Talks, Mass and conversations with the priest continue as normal, and the priest is always available if you'd like to talk.

What is included in the price?

Your own room with en-suite bathroom, sheets and towels, all meals during the retreat, tea and coffee whenever you like, the library of spiritual books, and the full programme.

How do I pay?

When you book, choose “Pay now” to pay by card straight away, or “Pay later” to receive bank-transfer details and a 5-digit invoice number to use as your reference. Cash and card are also accepted at the venue.

What if I can't pay the full cost?

No one should be discouraged from attending because of difficulty in paying. Email bookings@lismullin.ie before the retreat with a short note and the amount you can pay.

Can I come for only part of the retreat?

We strongly encourage you to book a retreat you can attend from beginning to end. The full fee applies even if you can't attend the whole retreat, as your place can't be offered to someone else.

What if I need to cancel?

If you cancel before the retreat starts, you're entitled to a refund. As an educational charity, we'd be grateful if you'd consider turning part of it into a contribution towards our costs. Email contact@lismullin.ie.

I have dietary requirements. Can you cater for them?

Yes. Add them under “Special Requests” on the booking form, or email contact@lismullin.ie.

How do I get to Lismullin?

By car: on the M3 take Exit 7 (Skryne/Johnstown), turn left at the top of the ramp onto the R147, and Lismullin is 400m on the left. There is ample free parking. By bus: from Busáras take the 109, or from Dublin Airport (Zones 12/13) the 109A, and get off at “Opp Lismullen”, across the road from the centre. Buses run hourly; the trip from the airport takes about an hour. Address: Lismullin Conference Centre, Tara, Co. Meath C15 XW40.
