Friday-Sunday, 25– 27 September
This weekend seminar is a time spent away from your ordinary occupations, set aside for a more intense Christian formation than is possible the rest of the year. It complements the annual retreat in helping you consolidate your spiritual life and apostolic efforts. It is invaluable in the context of on-going formation for those determined to grow in living all the richness of the Christian faith in their lives in the middle of the world.

In these sessions we will carefully trace the argument outlined in the recent book Lay Spirituality – as proposed by St Josemaría Escrivá by the Spanish theologian Javier López Díaz. The story told in the book is a fascinating one: how the Church’s early appreciation of the lay vocation was lost and how it was recovered only in the twentieth century, in the years leading up to the Second Vatican Council. St Josemaría Escrivá was probably the greatest single contributor to the Council’s core teaching that all the faithful, including the laity, are called to holiness. We will look in particular at what was unique in his portrayal of the lay vocation to holiness.
The story as told here presents the remarkable fact that for the greatest part of her history the Church has simply forgotten who the laity are. As a result the Church has been grossly underpowered for centuries. Only now is the Church in a position to really harness all the power of the holiness and missionary zeal latent in the ordinary Christian faithful. That the Church will be transformed when this is accomplished is an understatement.
The price of the seminar is €232 which includes meals and accommodation.
